Fireballs have been used ceremonially for many years and are a tradition in many parts of the globe. Here in Aberdeen, this special event occurs on the 31st of December, around the new year celebrations. The spectacle lies within a cage, with a ball inside. This is then set alight and swung around by the carriers.
You can view these whilst in Scotland as shown in the picture above. The event takes place in the harbour area in Stonehaven, which is very near to Aberdeen. It starts at 11 pm so it is best to get there early in order to get a better view.
