The Saracens Head Hotel was established in the 12th century and was once known as the King's Arms. The hotel was re-built in the 16th century and used many of its original materials that give it the historic style it has today.
The hotel is situated in the town centre of Southwell, Nottinghamshire and is roughly a 15 minute car drive from Newark.

During my stay I found the staff were very friendly, always willing to help and making conversation which made me feel very welcome.
The traditional style adds a great deal of character to the hotel, the walls are adorned with pictures of historic figures and it is furnished with rich red colours and wood throughout, which gives it a calm and luxurious feel.
My bedroom was comfortably furnished with a well sized wardrobe complete with a comfortable bed, desk space, television and clean and well furbished bathroom.
The hotel provides complimentary breakfast during your stay which was spot on every morning. There was a choice of either a full cooked breakfast or a selection of yogurt, fruit and cereal. You're also offered tea and coffee or there's a selection of fruit juices.
A full restaurant and bar is also available which serves cold and hot dishes that are reasonably priced and very tasty.
I would definitely recommend the hotel for the great location, delicious food, comfortable rooms and friendly hotel staff. The only thing that could be improved on is the internet access which is very temperamental.
