The Lewes Bonfire Night Celebrations is one of the biggest November 5th celebrations in the world.
Numerous bonfire societies attend the heavily choreographed event, which is made all the more dramatic with marching bands, celebrating the fall of Guy Fawkes. The event not only marks the failure of the Gunpowder Plot, but also remembers the Seventeen Martyrs that were burnt near the Lewes War Memorial and the Fallen.
The event always takes place on November 5, unless this date falls on a Sunday, then the celebrations will be moved to the Saturday, November 4. There are usually around 3,000 people taking part in the parades and a staggering 80,000 spectators.
If you are driving to the event it's best to check the website or tune in to the local radio to find out about road closures and parking for the evening, as it can get quite manic.
Chances are, accommodation around this time gets booked up pretty quickly, but if you are lucky, The Grapevine in Brighton offers cheap hostel rooms.
