Cardigan Bay is the largest bay in the British Isles. Not only is it known for its impressive stretch of beach, but it is also the best place in Europe to go dolphin spotting.
The bay is home to the largest population of bottlenose dolphins in Europe and is also home to the smaller porpoise and Atlantic grey seals.
‘A Bay To Remember’ is a small family-run business that offers tours of the area to help you get up close to the dolphins. If sea-sickness is something your’e familiar with, then you may want to consider about parting with your cash before booking onto these tours. The boats are Rigid Hulled Inflatables similar to those used by the RNLI. You can see more about the boats on their website.
Tour prices start from £25, which to some may seem quite steep but it is a day-trip you won’t be forgetting in a hurry. We’ve added it to our list of places to visit!
"Cardigan Bay is home to the largest resident population of Bottlenose Dolphins in Europe and gives the best chance of seeing dolphins. During 2013 we sighted dolphins and/or porpoise on 91% of our extended Bay Explorer Trips," says Tony Barber, A Bay To Remember.
Advance booking is essential. Gift vouchers are also available on the ‘A Bay to Remember’ website and make a great alternative present idea.
If sightseeing is your thing, then we suggest you head to Snowdonia to take in the breath-taking scenery on offer.
